Join a free webinar exploring the realities, opportunities, and challenges behind the 15-Minute City concept and what it takes to move from theory into practice across different urban contexts worldwide. The idea of the 15-Minute City has sparked global conversations in urban planning, mobility, and public policy. But beyond the headlines and debates, how can proximity-centered planning genuinely improve daily life in cities? And what happens when we try to apply these ideas across different urban, suburban, and even rural contexts around the world? In this free webinar co-organised by All Things Urban and UMX (Urban Mobility Explained) by EIT Urban Mobility, we’ll explore the evolution of the 15-Minute City concept, its practical implementation, and the latest research around accessibility, proximity, and urban mobility. The session will combine foundational insights with fresh international research, real-world examples, and reflections on how cities can become more accessible, inclusive, and connected through better planning and mobility systems. This Knowledge Hub Webinar explores new ways of understanding and measuring accessibility and proximity in today’s evolving urban and social contexts. It brings together experts sharing innovative analytical methods and participatory approaches that challenge traditional metrics. Four research cohorts will present their findings, each offering a unique perspective on accessibility and social justice. Participants will learn how large-scale digital Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) can uncover disparities in accessibility and proximity. In addition, the session will highlight the photovoice method, capturing everyday experiences through participatory media. Experts from DUT projects will rethink accessibility by shifting the focus from simply being “close to” resources toward what is “fair for” communities. In additon, the webinar will examine perceived accessibility and justice, introducing new metrics relevant to shared mobility studies. By combining data-driven insights with lived experiences, the event aims to provide a more holistic view of accessibility.
