We invite you to join us in Brussels on 10 June 2026 for a full-day conference to engage in dialogues on how to future-proof cities and to expand your network. The Decade of Action implies a growing urgency to translate high-level goals in the Urban Agenda for the EU, UN Agenda 2030, European Green Deal, and Competitiveness Compass into tangible local outcomes. With a mission to fund transformative research and innovation to build capacities of urban stakeholders and empower them to drive urban transitions in Europe and beyond, the European Partnership Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) is uniquely positioned to help cities deliver on European and global sustainability commitments. The DUT Conference 2026 will highlight DUT’s flagship activities and strategic direction towards 2033, as well as concrete results, lessons learned and scalable solutions from DUT-funded projects on urban mobility, energy and circularity. The conference will bring together stakeholders from academia, public authorities, private sector, civil society, policymakers and European institutions and initiatives. It will showcase and discuss transdisciplinary collaboration, innovative solutions, and scaling opportunities through a bottom-up research model that supports climate neutral, resilient and inclusive urban transition in Europe and worldwide. To ensure a truly global dialogue we invite participants and projects from across the globe. On the programme Panels with experts, European and local leaders discussing the soft power of cities and how to build bridges between local experiences and European urban policies. The biennial Festival showcases the best practices of the New European Bauhaus, the European Commission initiative that brings the clean transition to our built environments and improves everyday life for everyone. It aims to inspire communities to reimagine spaces, design better living environments and drive sustainability and inclusivity. The 2026 edition of the NEB Festival will focus on Democratic Engagement, showing how citizens can be involved in shaping their communities, and on Affordable Housing, the foundation for strong, inclusive societies.

Exciting news! We are pleased to announce that the final event of the SMALL project will take place on 16 September 2026, in Ghent. Titled 'Advancing shared mobility with no one left behind', this closing conference will bring together partners, stakeholders and practitioners from across the North Sea Region to reflect on the project’s achievements and explore how inclusive shared mobility can move forward beyond SMALL. Co-funded by the Interreg North Sea Programme, SMALL has worked to make shared mobility more accessible for people with reduced mobility (PRMs). The final event will be an opportunity to showcase results, exchange experiences from the pilots, and discuss long-term implementation and policy uptake. Do you want to join? Express your interest! Shared Mobility Rocks is back! The unconventional conference with festival-vibes takes place on May 5, 2026, in Vienna, and brings together experts, cities, and mobility providers to exchange ideas and best practices in a dynamic setting. DO Seminar Speakers: Giacomo Maggiorano and Léo Wursten Location: Anthropole 4059, Lausanne The 15-minute city has emerged as a prominent urban planning paradigm advocating that essential daily needs - such as employment, retail, education, healthcare, and leisure- be accessible within a 15-minute walk from any location in the urban area. While conceptually compelling, its effective implementation requires rigorous, data-driven tools capable of diagnosing accessibility gaps and evaluating potential interventions. In collaboration with SDOL (Stratégie et développement de l’Ouest lausannois), the authority coordinating urban development across the municipalities of Western Lausanne, we develop a quantitative diagnostic of the current situation. Our approach relies on the construction of a pedestrian accessibility model based on OpenStreetMap data (pedestrian network and points of interest) combined with detailed population and employment data provided by SDOL. The territory under study is characterized by significant spatial fragmentation due to natural barriers and major transport infrastructure, which constrain walkability and generate structural inequalities in service access. Using this integrated dataset, we compute accessibility indicators, identify critical services with limited coverage, and detect underserved population clusters. Beyond this diagnostic phase, we analyze selected structural interventions - such as the addition of a new pedestrian bridge - and assess their impact on network connectivity and accessibility levels. This analysis enables a quantitative evaluation of how targeted infrastructure investments may reduce proximity gaps and improve spatial equity. It also opens the door to optimisation-driven investment strategies grounded in quantitative accessibility analysis.

L’eau dans les milieux urbains devra être considérée sous toutes ses formes : souterraine, superficielle, pluviale, potable et non potable, usées... La ressource en eau douce, indispensable à l’installation humaine sur un territoire, a toujours été étroitement liée à la santé des populations, et, dans le contexte actuel de changement climatique et d’urbanisation croissante, son importance pour la santé et le bien-être ne fait que croître. L’eau est indispensable à la vie, elle est un facteur limitant pour le développement urbain, industriel et agricole à l’échelle du bassin versant, et en climat tempéré le support essentiel de l’hygiène publique. Elle est aussi une source primordiale de bien-être dans la ville (fraîcheur, espaces verts, loisirs…). L’eau douce est soumise à une pression anthropique croissante, source de défis complexes en termes de quantité, d’accessibilité et de qualité dans le respect de la santé des populations humaines, animales et végétales, l’équilibre des agro-écosystèmes et des écosystèmes aquatiques et la durabilité des socio-écosystèmes urbains. Ainsi, les usages actuels et à venir des eaux en ville sont associés à de nombreuses problématiques sanitaires dont certaines sont liées à de nouveaux aménagements ou nouvelles pratiques (jardins de pluie, miroirs d’eau, baignade en ville, fontaines, lutte contre l’imperméabilisation, doubles réseaux de distribution, végétalisation du bâti…). Ces usages peuvent aussi accentuer des conflits existants (assainissement, agriculture, urbanisme, production d’énergie) ou en engendrer de nouveaux entre usages domestique, alimentaire, récréatif, rafraîchissant... Base indispensable de la vie, de la santé, de la biodiversité et des espaces verts, l’eau en ville est à la fois gérée localement et intégrée aux enjeux régionaux de gestion des bassins versants. Dans le respect du droit à l’eau, les défis portent donc, à différentes échelles géographiques, administratives et temporelles sur la relation entre la quantité, la qualité et les usages depuis les bassins-versants péri-urbains jusqu’à la ville. Pour protéger la santé des populations, des solutions sont à trouver dans les territoires en concertation avec toutes les parties prenantes (acteurs locaux, scientifiques, politiques, associations, etc.) en intégrant la gestion des trames verte, bleue et brune. L’objectif du congrès est d’établir un état des connaissances issues de la recherche et des expériences citoyennes, sur l’eau et la santé dans la ville en abordant plusieurs thématiques : l’accès à l’eau et ses usages, les enjeux sanitaires et environnementaux de la qualité de l’eau, ainsi que les outils de gestion de l’eau à différentes échelles. Ce congrès mobilisera des intervenant.e.s de différents secteurs, disciplines et communautés de la société qui s’efforceront de proposer des recommandations.
