| Description |
Permanent rumble strips help to prevent accidents, especially those that occur when drivers unintentionally stray out of lanes due to inattention or tiredness. The devices deliver an "alerting road" function, improving the primary safety of the infrastructure. The Order of 14 January 2020, on equipping roads and motorways with rumble strips, has specified the possible provisions for implementing rumble strips and extended their field of use, which now includes two-way single-carriageway roads, in addition to motorways and roads with separate carriageways. The aim of this document is to support road managers in implementing this Order, which widens the possible options for using rumble strips. To do so, it covers the safety issues to consider before deploying rumble strips; the conditions for installing and using different types of rumble strip; their limitations and when their use is not advisable.
