Description
The Caribbean region presents a significant opportunity for the development of marine energies. These renewable energy sources, including offshore wind, wave, tidal, floating PV, ocean thermal energy and cooling systems offer a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, contributing to energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Many Caribbean countries recognized the potential and the need for capacity building in this sector. A number of them are already putting in place efforts on the ground to support the deployment of projects, and are seeking to mobilize the private sector to unlock additional financings. Nevertheless, the development of these emerging energies remains a challenge for the region, this is why Expertise France, with the support of Cerema, organised a study visit in Europe and a training programme tailored for Caribbean counterparts. As part of this visit, 13 representatives from the public sector (Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Barbados, The Bahamas, The Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, CCREEE, and the OECS) attended the Seanergy conference in Paris on 17-18 June. This was an opportunity for fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among Caribbean nations and Europe to advance marine energy projects.
