In 2016, in order to deepen the understanding of fatal road accidents and their causality, the Road Safety Delegation decided to financially support Cerema to study the determinants of these accidents in specific in-depth studies. To this end, Cerema has created a database (Facteurs Liés aux Accidents Mortels FLAM) which gathers fatal road accidents of the year 2015, coded from the police accident reports. Cerema has carried out studies based on the FLAM data, in particular the accident factors. This study presents the results of the analysis of the factors that played a role in the genesis of fatal road accidents that occurred in 2015 in mainland France and in the French overseas territories, excludingthe Pacific zone
